After finding a hostel in Vang Vieng we looked around to find a good place to eat. Man! did we find a place where the food is great. We spend 3 nights and 4 days in Vang Vieng and every night we orderd something different and everytime the food was so good and so delicious. But of all the dishes that we’ve eaten we have definitly one favourite. The sandwich, for me it was the callorybomb chicken bacon sandwich and for Sanne it was the chicken cheese sandwich.
After a realy good meal we went to a bar called “Fat Monkeys” with some dutch girls we’ve met in Koh Phangnan, Maud and Bente. The rumour was that they were offering free beer from 21.00 till 21.30. Sadly this was not entirely true. The beer was free only if you could chug a big bottle (633ml) of beer in one time, and that was an impossible task for us. So we had to buy our beers, what a let down haha.
But that didnt ruin the fun for us, especially not for Sanne. She and the dutch girls were challenged to play beerpong against Germans. And Sanne was suprisingly very good at it or maybe she just didnt want to drink all the beer herself. She ended up drinking a few cups of beer but not as much as her oppenents. Sanne, Maud, Bente and Leonore celibrated there victory by drinking some more beer ofcourse as a cocktail drinker that she is, Sanne gave me her beer for me to finish.
Like I said in the last post. We came to Vang Vieng to go tubing but there is more to Vang Vieng then just tubing, about that later more. The second day we rented our tubes and got in a tuk tuk who drove us to the dropoff point where we could get in the Mekong river and float down stream to the bars. There used to be around 30 or more bars alongside the Mekong river but because of the many incedents with drunk and drugged up people, the Lao goverment decided to close it down and allow 3 bars to stay open.
The first bar we stayed in we met a bunch a people with whom we played a drinking game. For Sanne it was a horrible game because she was forced to drink beer again (it was the cheapest alcholic option). But she held her own and drank a whole can of beer.
At the second bar, wich is called “The first bar”, we stayed the longest because there was a lot to do. Playing volleyball, basketball, table tennis and ofcourse beerpong!!! And with every drink that you bought you got a colourfull wristband, i got 7 and Sanne got 9 of them (but 3 of them she didn’t get in an honest way).
At the third and last bar, there was not alot to do then just being drunk and have a good time with all the people we’ve met at the first two bars. But this bar had one thing or actualy two thing that made it stand out compared to the other bars. This bar was the home of the cutes little white puppies with blue eyes. They were so playfull and hopping around the bar that everybody had to pick them and cuddle with them. So after a drink or two at the third bar we jumped back into the Mekong with our tubes to return them. Along the way the scenery of the green mountains and the blue skies realy made me go quiet and enjoy the view.
The third day we rented a motorbike and for me it was the first time driving a manual. The first few meters on the bike looked like a breakdance move. But after 20 minutes or so i got the hang of it and we had a nice drive to our first destination. This was a blue lagoon and a cave that was right beside it. The lagoon was little lake that you could go into. But we didnt go in. We did go in to the cave. This cave was very cool to enter and we walked and climbed around this cave for a while until it got to dark and scared me a little bit haha.
Our second destination was a waterfall, this waterfall was so high and had so much force that when we stud close to it it felt like a show combined with a big windtunnel. It felt realy refreshing.
After this we came back to our favourite bar/restaurant to eat some food and watch some Southpark and Friends. We said our goodbyes to the friends we made in Vang Vieng and also to the people we’ve met on the slowboat. So as promissed i would give a shout out to Colm, Ben, Kelly, Adrian, Charlotte. We had lots of fun with you guys!
