Phuket, a cool town where we met some cool people

After 14 hours of traveling by train, express bus and a local bus, we’ve finally arrived in Phuket old town. And when you get out of the bus you inmediately see why they call it old town. The buildings have an old portuguese feel to them. And this makes Phuket one of the cities that has the most charachter of all the cities we’ve visited till now. Im sorry Bangkok, even more charachter then you.

In the local bus we’ve met a few people who were heading the same direction as us and a few of them even had the same idea as us. And that was to use the 2 nights and 3 days in Phuket just to relax and most important, to do laundry. And believe me we we’re in need of doing some laundry. The people we met we’re two germans (Chris & Lilly) and an Irish twin (Eden & Ruth). We ended up spending the rest of our nights in Phuket with the funloving and always smiling Irish girls.

The first night we stayed in Phuket they wanted to eat at a restaurant that came highly recommended by the Lonely Planet they brought with them. This restaurant was called Wilai and made Thai soulfood. We looked at the menu and there was so much good dishes to choose from that it took us four a bit longer then normal to choose what to eat. But we did come to a final choice. When dinner was served we tried everything form eachother and we all agreed that Ruth chose the best tasting dish. It was rice with a tom yum sauce. But that didnt mean ours wasn’t good, cause everything tasted delicious. Sanne, Ruth, Eden we were talking so much that you would almost forget that we just met a few hours earlier.

After dinner we decided to get some drinks at a local bar where they made chap cocktails. But just before we left Wilai restaurant we met a dutch couple (Ilse & Michael) both of them came from my hometown Rotterdam. Ilse used to live in the same neighbourhoud as I did. Its a small world hey!

So the 6 of us ended up at the local bar where we had a lot of matai’s and smoked shishas. We had a good time and everybody was smiling and laughing about the experiences backpacking in Thailand.

After racking up a good bill for thai standards, we all went back to our own hostel and get a good night sleep. Sanne, Micheal, Ilse and I decided to meet eachother again the next day to rent some scooters and explore the Island of Phuket a little bit. More about that in our next post.
